Self Defense

Any comments from qualified people would be welcome

What do you think is the single most effective self-defense weapon?
I read in a hardy boys book one time that it was a good pair of running shoes. lol

but really, what single thing will make the most difference in a self-defense situation?

I don't plan on answering that question in this post, but I will in some of the following posts, meanwhile, let me know what you think.

My purse. The smaller the better. Or a fist that I know how to swing.

The best weapon is your mind. Well... that and a good billy club... i just love the sound it makes.. *thud* *omph*

a hard head butt to the chin or nose depending on your height

black belt? no, wait just take along one of THE hardy boys. that should do it...

you apply the most effective weapon as soon as possible to the most vulnerable point of your enemy.
swift thinking is a must.
--weapon
use legs; stronger, longer, more powerful than arms
--speed
only training can produce results
--point of attack or counterattack
groin,eyes,abdomen,knee,throat

did you ever hear of the poke self-defence weapon?

i'll poke my enemy like the pillsbury dough boy and he'll go "he he" and forget to fight.

Jennifer, all good comments but they fail to answer the question posed: what is the most effective self-defense weapon?

is it a tool, or an asset.

one of you have hit upon the correct idea, the rest just joked around, which is ok too

Hey not fair, you threw me off track when you mentioned the Hardy boys! Did you do that on purpose? I believe we all know your mind is the number one answer.

Posted by: Patsy at April 18, 2003 12:54 PM

prayer.

But it's so much fun to joke around... *whine* (yes, I'd like cheese w/ that, and crackers too if you have any)

To be serious, well... I'd say if I could carry you around in my purse than I'd say you. But if by myself or somethings wrong w/ Jeremy, then I would say my mind is the best weapon... being able to think through the situation and use the parts of my body to defend myself like you and Jeremy have shown me.

self defence weapon: the mind(asset and tool).
the mind is a valuable asset in all situations but a more valuable asset if you fill it with proper knowledge of self defence techniques and it will become a tool to use.

I would like to pose the answer to the question:
There are three stages: Preventative; evasive; defensive.

Your greatest asset in any self-defense situation is the alert and prepared mind. This will allow you to prevent most situations and will allow you to not be taken by surprise in others. It will also give you an edge in situations you find unavoidable.

Next after that, is just like the Hardy Boys said: a good pair of running shoes, after all, the man who runs away today, lives to fight another day.

Next after that, is a cane. For the times when you cannot run away. You can take it anywhere legally, and it is incredibly versatile and effective.

Great to know these things!

Ok, you guys have taught me some self-defense moves and help me practice them sometimes and my mind works amazingly well in difficult situations. Either you or Jason made me a nice solid walking stick which I still have and use occasionally. Now for a good pair of sneakers... hmmm, I just need to be able to afford them and find some comfortable ones in my size (2 1/2 girls) that don't have the powerpuff girls or barbie on them.
